I am and always have been a believer that God will keep his promises. When I was a young girl, I went to a Baptist Church where I met two of the greatest influences in my spiritual life. Their names are Otto and Gloria Brown. I loved hearing Bro. Brown preach, he was larger than life in my eyes. He is a kind man who was very tall and had silver hair and held his head at angle when he was talking or listening. His eyes were so kind and loving. He never once, at least that I can remember, made me feel bad for being a sinner. He is a FANTASTIC preacher! His sermons reminded me of Billy Graham because he is passionate about the Lord. Ms. Gloria was his helpmeet. You could so totally see the love that each one of them had for each other although it was not very often shown publicly, When I was young, probably about 12 or so, Ms. Gloria looked at me and told me that I would marry a preacher someday. In my mind, I thought, Psh! No Way! I was not a preachers wife material. Sure, I loved the Lord but that was a whole other level of commitment.
Flash forward 10 years and you'll see that I thought I had escaped the preacher's wife role when I married my sweetheart. Shawn's family was a 4th generation truss builder. He would someday take over his Dad's business. WHEW! Ms. Gloria certainly had me pegged wrong! After Shawn and I had been married for 11 years and had two children, I thought my life's direction was set in stone. God, however, had another plan.
Unbeknownst to me, Shawn had felt a calling on his life when he was 18 to enter the ministry. He never said a word to me. (yes, we were dating then!) In 2006, Shawn came home from a 72 hour retreat called the Walk to Emmaus and announced that he felt God's call on his life again and this time he was going to answer the call. Talk about being blown away! I was so surprised but also very proud of him for answering the call. He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in December 2012 and he will begin at Asbury Theological Seminary next week. I am so incredibly happy for him. I know we are being called into ministry as a family because Satan is attacking us really hard right now. God will fulfill His promise to our family because God always does.
So, Ms. Gloria, it looks like you were right all along!
Resting in God'z
Peace, Love....
